Terminal

Open a shell inside a container from your browser.

A terminal opens a shell inside a running container, right in your browser.

  1. Open the Terminal tab of a stack or a container. It connects on its own, using Bash if the container has it, otherwise sh.
  2. On a stack with several containers, to use another one, press Disconnect, pick the Container and press Connect Again.

The terminal icon in a service's row on the stack's Overview opens one in that service.

On a phone or tablet, a row of keys above the terminal adds what the on-screen keyboard lacks: Paste, Esc, Tab, Ctrl, Alt, the arrows, |, ~ and /. Paste types what you copied (your browser may ask you to allow it first). Ctrl and Alt apply to the next key you type: tap Ctrl, then c to stop a command.

Good to know:

  • A terminal only works in a running container that has a shell. It never opens a shell on the server itself. If the container isn't running, Start starts it (when you may start it).
  • You can have up to 4 terminals open at once.
  • A terminal closes after 30 minutes without typing or output (you get a warning at 25), and after 8 hours in total. Press Connect Again to start a new one.
