Docker Manager

Images

Pull, tag and remove images on your servers.

Images lists the images on your servers, which containers use them, their size and when they were built. Turn on Unused to see only images no container uses.

  • Pull Image downloads an image. Enter a name such as nginx:1.27; without a tag, latest is pulled. The dialog shows which registry connection it will use. If the pull fails, Try Again takes you back to the form with what you entered, and Open Job shows what went wrong.
  • Tag gives an image another name. If another image has that name, the name moves to this image.
  • Create Container opens the container form with this image filled in.
  • Remove asks you to type the image's name. An image that containers still use can't be removed.

Images without a tag are listed at the end. Prune Images removes unused ones (see Maintenance).

The size next to the number of images is the space they take on disk, with the layers images share counted once. An image's Size counts its shared layers too, so the sizes in the list add up to more. When you filter the list, and for the images without a tag, Docker can't say how much of the shared layers those images use alone: you see the range the space lies in, such as "800 MB to 1.2 GB". A server whose Docker Agent needs an upgrade shows a range too.

To remove several images, select their rows and press Remove. You see what is removed and what is left out before you confirm; if a removal fails, the closing message says why and stays until you close it.

To build your own images, see Builds. To keep images up to date, see Updates.
